Itinerary

Very Important – Although the Inca Trail Expedition regulations state that reservations must be made 5 days in advance, it is best to make reservations well in advance. During peak season, space is usually fully booked 90 days before departure. This is because only 500 people can travel per day. This is the only way to protect the road network and the Machu Picchu Sanctuary from erosion and contamination. Therefore, it is necessary to pay for permits in advance.

About the Porters:

The porters’ job is to carry all the group’s luggage (tents, kitchen utensils, water, food, equipment, chairs, tables, etc.) throughout the trip. Tourists carry their own personal luggage, including a backpack with personal items (clothing, cosmetics, ointments, a canteen, a flashlight, a mat, a sleeping bag, etc.). If tourists do not wish to carry their own personal belongings (which is rare), they must hire an additional porter to carry their own. The price is USD 120.00 for the first 3 days; the 4th day is not required.

Reservation Requirements:

Note: This information will be verified upon entry into the Inca Sanctuary. It is essential that everyone be present. The gatekeepers will check and verify your documents.
If there are no spaces available on the Inca Trail:
Note: If there are no spaces available on the Inca Trail, we recommend the 5-day, 4-night Mollepata-Salkantay Inca Trail. Click here for more information and to book.
