Itinerary

The hike around the majestic Ausangate snow-capped mountain (APU), the highest peak in the Vilcanota mountain range, is magnificent and challenging, as it was one of the most important Apus peaks from the Inca era. This hike takes place at altitudes above 4,600 meters (15,600 ft) throughout its entire length. Ausangate, a snow-capped mountain now visited by thousands of tourists, unfolds in a spectacular and diverse landscape. Its geography, geology, erosion, deglaciations, snow-capped peaks (Mariposa, Callangate, Colquecruz, Campa, etc.), typical high-altitude flora and fauna, as well as picturesque customs of the Peruvian Andes inhabitants can all be appreciated and enjoyed in the artisan capital of Peru, featuring textiles and typical dances from the Ausangate Valley. (Daily departures; space is not limited; availability is limited.)
