Program
Day 1 – CUSCO – HYDROELECTRIC PLANT – AGUAS CALIENTES
You will be picked up from your hotel between 7:30 and 7:45 am to depart from Cusco at 8:00 am. Our journey will take us through the Sacred Valley of the Incas, continuing along a winding road that ascends towards the Abra de Málaga pass, the highest point of the route at 4,316 meters above sea level. From here, we can appreciate some of the most breathtaking landscapes in Peru.
We will begin our descent into the cloud forest, passing through different altitudinal zones that combine paradisiacal landscapes with majestic snow-capped peaks and warm, sunny slopes. Upon reaching Alfamayo, we will find a road in perfect condition, completely paved. From here, the road becomes unpaved, and we will continue along it towards the town of Santa María. Located at an altitude of 1575 meters above sea level, we’ll continue after a brief stop to the town of Santa Teresa, arriving around 2:00 p.m. There, a typical local lunch will be waiting, with a variety of dishes to suit your taste. Finally, we’ll arrive at Hidroeléctrica, where you should go to the train station if you wish to take the train from Hidroeléctrica to Aguas Calientes and purchase your round-trip train tickets on the spot. The train journey takes approximately 50 minutes. If you prefer to walk, the journey takes approximately 2 hours.
The meeting point in Aguas Calientes will be in the Plaza de Armas, where our guide will call you by name to transfer you to your hostel. Dinner will be served, and the guide will provide you with all the necessary information for your Machu Picchu tour the following day.
If you wish, you will have free time to visit the Aguas Calientes hot springs at 7:00 p.m. (optional, at your own expense).
Day 2 – Guided Tour of Machu Picchu
You will have the option to ascend to Machu Picchu by bus or on foot. Breakfast will be served starting at 5:00 a.m. The guided tour will begin at 6:00 a.m. and will last at least two hours. Afterward, you will have free time until approximately 11:30 a.m., the recommended time to board the train back to the hydroelectric plant.
