Itinerary
To begin the tour to Machu Picchu, you will need to arrive in Cusco, located 1600 km southeast of Lima, Peru, at least one day before the tour starts. PeruRail trains depart from 6:00 AM. From Cusco to Machu Picchu, you can travel by train or by hiking the ancient Inca Trail, which can take two or four days. This tour will utilize only the train service.
We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco one hour before your train’s departure time and take you to the train station in Poroy (30 minutes away). There, you will board the PeruRail train and begin your journey to the town of Aguas Calientes (2000 meters above sea level), a journey that takes approximately four hours.
We will arrive at the Aguas Calientes train station, where you can explore the town of the same name, have a snack, and wait until 11:30 a.m. to head to the bus station. From there, we will ascend 400 meters (1,500 feet) along a winding road for 30 minutes to reach the incredible world wonder, the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, also known as the Lost City of the Incas.
The guided tour begins promptly at 12:00 noon. Upon arrival at the Machu Picchu citadel, we will go through the entrance checkpoint where you will present your ticket. From there, the guided tour will begin, visiting the main sites of the city, including the Main Plaza, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Sun Dial, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows, and the cemeteries. The guided tour will last for more than two hours. At the end of the tour, you will have free time to stroll around the citadel or, if you wish, have lunch at the Sanctuary Lodge Hotel. Alternatively, you can return to the town of Aguas Calientes and have lunch at one of the many restaurants. (Lunch is not included in the package.)
In the afternoon, you will take the train back (please arrive at the station 30 minutes before your train’s departure time). The return journey follows the same route as the outbound trip. Upon arrival at the train station, we will be waiting to transfer you to your hotel.
