Program
DAY 1.- CITY TOUR IN LIMA WITH A VIEW OF HUACA PUCLLANA
Upon arrival on Peruvian soil, our staff will welcome you in the lobby of Lima’s Jorge Chavez Airport and transfer you to your hotel. After a rest, we will visit the most interesting sites in the “City of Kings”: the Cathedral, Pizarro’s Tomb, the Catacombs of San Francisco, passing by Congress, and the Torre Tagle Palace. You will then visit the residential areas of Orrantia, San Isidro, and Miraflores, where we will visit the recently restored Huaca Pucllana ruins. Barranco, where you will enjoy spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. Next, you will visit the Rafael Larco Herrera Museum, where you will find a large collection of pre-Incan ceramics, including the world’s largest collection of erotic huacos. Overnight at your selected hotel in Lima.
DAY 2.- CITY TOUR IN CUSCO
After breakfast at your hotel, we will pick you up and transfer you to the Lima airport. There, you will check in and board a one-hour flight to Cusco, the Archaeological Capital of the Americas. Our staff will welcome you and transfer you from the Cusco airport to your selected hotel, where you will enjoy coca-based mate. After lunch, at 1:30 pm, we will begin a guided tour that includes visits to the center of the ancient city of Cusco, the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral, the Monastery of Santo Domingo, the Temple of Koricancha, and the nearby ruins of Kenko, Puka Pukara, Tambomachay, and the Sacsayhuaman fortress. The rock formations are constructed from enormous rocks. Their movement and use remain a mystery, as there are no stone quarries in the area. At 7:00 pm, we will visit the ruins of the ancient city of Cusco.
DAY 3.- TOUR TO THE SACRED VALLEY OF THE INKA
This day we will tour the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We begin at 8:00 a.m., picking you up from your hotel and heading to Pisaq, a typical market with picturesque mountain terraces. We will visit the Pisaq archaeological site, also famous for its fairs where you can buy beautiful handicrafts. Afterward, we will head to Urubamba, where a buffet lunch is included. We will then head to the Ollantaytambo Fortress, where descendants of the Incas live in Inca homes. Finally, we will head to Chinchero to see its market and the archaeological site with typical Spanish overlays on the Inca buildings. The tour will end around 7:00 p.m. in Cusco’s Plaza de Armas. We will spend the night at a selected hotel in Cusco.
DAY 4 – START OF THE INCA TRAIL
After breakfast at your hotel, we’ll pick you up early and travel by road to Chilca, 88 km away. Here, we’ll meet with porters, cooks, and the necessary equipment for the trek. We’ll begin the trek along the Urubamba River to reach Patallaqta, where we’ll have lunch. We’ll continue our journey through the Huayllabamba Valley to reach Llullucayoc, where we’ll camp and have a pleasant dinner before spending the night.
DAY 5 – INCA TRAIL
We will wake up very early to contemplate the beauty of the mountains and breathe the pure air that nature generously provides. After breakfast, we will continue our hike until we reach the highest point, the “WARMIWUAÑUSCA” pass (where women die) at 4,200 meters above sea level, from where we will have a panoramic view of the snow-capped mountains, valleys, and surrounding mountains. We will continue our descent into the great “PACAYMAYO” valley, where we will have hot drinks (mates); then comes dinner and finally, camp. Lunch and dinner are included. DAY 6 – INCA TRAIL
Breakfast at camp, then we begin the hike through a semitropical valley, viewing vestiges of the Inca culture, strategically located according to the daily life needs of the Incas who inhabited the area. We then begin the ascent to Runcuracay, an archaeological site at 3,700 meters above sea level. We then continue to Sayacmarka, where we will rest and have lunch. We then continue our hike to PUYUPATAMARCA (City Above the Clouds), an impressive Inca city. DAY 7 – INCA TRAIL AND VISIT TO MACHUPICCHU
After breakfast, we will continue to the wonderful entrance to Machu Picchu through the Inti Punku (Sun Gate), from where you will have an impressive panoramic view of the citadel. Upon arrival at Machu Picchu, we will take a guided tour of the citadel, visiting the main ruins and monuments, such as the Main Plaza, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Sun Clock, the Royal Rooms, the Temple of the Three Windows, and the cemeteries. Free time to stroll through the citadel and then take a bus to Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included). DAY 8 – FREE DAY IN CUSCO
After breakfast at the hotel, you will have the day at leisure to relax or, if you wish, explore the city of Cusco, visit a museum or church, or visit the San Pedro Market, where you can experience the local culinary traditions from a different perspective. You can also travel to a nearby town, such as those located in the Sacred Valley, an area with a good climate and beautiful scenery. Overnight stay in Cusco.
DAY 9 – PLANE FROM CUSCO TO JULIACA AND TOUR TO THE SILLUSTANI CHULLPAS
Breakfast at the hotel. You will have the morning free to purchase handicrafts and souvenirs of your visit, as well as take advantage of a final stroll through the streets of the Imperial City of Cusco. At noon, we will transfer you to the Cusco airport to board your flight to Juliaca (located a 1-hour bus ride from Puno). During the tour, we will visit the Sillustani Chullpas, pre-Inca funerary towers located on the shores of Lake Umayo. The tallest tower is approximately 12 meters high. Upon arrival in Puno, our staff will be waiting for us and will take us to the hotel where we will spend the night.
DAY 10 – TOUR TO LAKE TITICACA, UROS ISLANDS, AND TAQUILE
After breakfast at your hotel, you will be transferred to the port of Puno (Lake Titicaca), where you will board a boat and then visit the Uros Floating Islands for a 45-minute visit, where you will experience the island’s customs and crafts. Afterwards, we will also travel by boat to visit Taquile Island, a place of great scenic, ethnic, cultural, and archaeological significance. We will then return by boat to the port of Puno. There, you will be picked up and taken to your hotel, or, if you prefer, we can drop you off in downtown Puno. Finally, you will spend the night at your selected hotel. DAY 11 – BUS TRIP FROM PUNO TO AREQUIPA
After breakfast at your hotel, you will have a few hours to explore Puno’s city center. At a scheduled time, we will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to the bus terminal for your trip to Arequipa. We will be waiting for you with a sign with your name on it. We will take you on a tour of the “White City,” including the Convent of Santa Catalina, undoubtedly the jewel of Arequipa, finally opened to the public in 1970 after 400 years of seclusion, and home to countless pieces of colonial art. You will also visit the Plaza de Armas, the cloisters of the Society of Jesus, and the Cayma and Yanahuara neighborhoods, with magnificent views of the El Misti volcano. You will also visit a traditional colonial mansion called the Founder’s Mansion.
DAY 12 – TO THE COLCA CANYON AND VICUÑA RESERVE
Early in the morning, depart by private bus for the Colca Canyon, passing by the foot of the Chachani volcano. During the journey, you will cross the Cañahuas and Arrieros plains, where the Vicuñas National Reserve is located, as well as Vizcachani, La Pulpera, Callalli, Sibayo, and Tuti Villages. You will reach an altitude of 4,000 meters above sea level, where you will appreciate the flora and fauna of the beautiful natural lagoons of Bofedales and Mar Atrapado, along with giant castle-shaped rocks. DAY 13 – COLCA CANYON AND CONDOR VIEWING
In the morning, we depart for the “Cruz del Condor,” where the canyon begins and where we can appreciate its depth. From this point, we will also be able to see the condor in its natural habitat. After a brief stop at the “Cruz del Condor,” we will continue our journey through the Colca Canyon, admiring the small towns of Pinchocclo, Madrigal, Lari, Maca, Achoza, Yanque, etc., then return to Arequipa to rest.
